\"Ceiling<\/a>Anchoring grids to concrete ceilings is sometimes easier said than done.\u00a0 Concrete slabs are sometimes strengthened using a process called post tensioning, a method that uses embedded high strength steel cables to reinforce the concrete.\u00a0 Although this construction technique produces concrete sections with excellent structural integrity, locating post-tension cables (and rebar or conduit for that matter) in concrete presents a challenge. Making contact with post-tension tendons when drilling holes can cause catastrophic failure of overhead concrete panels.\u00a0<\/p>\n

We recently installed a ceiling grid for a simulation lab at the Cleveland Clinic.\"Hilti<\/a>\u00a0 The specs for this new training area called for an exposed ceiling grid to support overhead medical equipment.\u00a0 Because the ceiling was constructed using post-tension concrete slabs, locating the cables was neccessary prior to installing the ceiling grid.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Our installers used a Hilti PS 30 Ferrodetector<\/a> to locate the cables and rebar in the concrete.\u00a0 We then used Hilti KB-TZ Anchors<\/a> to secure the Unistrut to the concrete.\u00a0 The 18′ x 20′ grid was constructed from Unistrut P10001<\/a>, P1028<\/a>, and P1036<\/a>.\u00a0 For a finishing touch, the grid was painted white to give the room a clean, contemporary look and feel.\u00a0<\/p>\n
